Pastoral Leadership Style

Pastoral Leadership Style A recent article in Ministries Today Magazine said, "Pastors should worry less about having a friend in their congregation and more about whether their congregation has a leader." The article continued, " when we try to be buddies with the very people we are called to serve and lead, we put our ministry at risk. The results can be disastrous. A father, for example, cannot always be a buddy to his children; he must be able to discipline them." Is it true when we become "friends" with church members "we lose our leadership edge and ministry effectiveness?" Leadership style is a vital issue into today's church. Churches split and many are embattled over the leadership style of the pastor. I've heard pastors say they are "God's man" and to disagree with them is to disagree with God." Other pastors want to please everyone and end up pleasing no one. Can a pastor be both a friend and a leader to his congregation?
