The Biggest-Bang-for-the-Buck Missions Policy

by Lee Turner

Biggest-bang-for-the-buck mission "thinking" puts supreme value on the greatest number of baptisms actually performed. Churches and mission committees which hold this to be the bellwether consideration in assigning priorities for mission giving are not likely to be notable participants in evangelizing the Muslim world. Instead, they will be busy shifting their giving to follow the will-o'-the-wisp desire to participate in the latest where-the-action-is-now mission project.

Typical of Islam's opposition to the message of Christ, a law was recently promulgated in Malaysia making it illegal for Muslims to own a copy or portion of the Bible! Does the mandate under which we Christians evangelize allow us to simply abandon people living under such tyranny? The biggest-bang-for-the-buck policy certainly does! If that is right, then mark one-fifth of the world off your missions map, the fifth of the world now living under the repression of Islam!

Isaiah, the gospel prophet, predicted that the day would come when, "the earth shall be full of the knowledge of Jehovah, as the waters cover the sea" (Is. 11:9 rv). We at Key Communications believe Isaiah's vision came from God and contains a powerful and relevant mission mandate for the people of Christ. We want to do all we can to bring that vision to reality. That means we are going to find and support ways and means to get the message of Jesus to every one who hungers and thirsts for righteousness (Matt. 5:6), even to those in the vast Muslim world.
