Open Doors sheds light on the role of the women in the persecuted church through a book by Anneke Companjen titled, Hidden Sorrow, Lasting Joy. "In most countries where Christian persecution exists, there are strict, specific cultural definitions of the roles of men and women. Because of this, Christian women are not as well known as their husbands. The stories of Christian persecuted women need to be heard," says Terry Madison, president of Open Doors. The book, written, by Anneke Companjen, Madison's wife, examines the personal testimonies of 20 women from the persecuted church.
