Your words of reflection on the meaning of life (September issue) while knowing the reality of death were very meaningful to me. In the middle years of my life tragedy tore me apart. But God brought me up out of the horrible pit, set my feet upon a rock and established my goings. Thanks be unto God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Some years later I wrote the following verse:
From our birth, at that first cry
We hurry toward the day we die.
Born in sin a constant flood
Salvation came by Jesus' shed blood.
We cannot call this world our home
To dwell within its catacomb.
We live in hope of Christ our Lord
His sacrifice is our reward.
When Jesus calls to take His own
Death becomes a stepping stone.
