by Rachel TamilioThe Power of Unity
1 Corinthians 1:10: "Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."
There is power in unity. Christ said so, the apostles said so and our own common sense will testify to this fact. Where there is no unity or unity is threatened, the work of God is hindered and inhibited.
A tower, no matter how well the plans are laid, will not be built if contractors cannot communicate the same language-as our friends at Babel quickly discovered. A house, Christ said, divided amongst itself cannot stand.
By the same principle, a local assembly cannot weather the storms of today's culture and society if it does not stand together in unity. When the world becomes caught up in a climate of politically correctness, the church should stand as a lighthouse-boldly and unashamedly proclaiming, adhering, and exemplifying the absolutes. The old landmarks the fathers of our faith have left as legacies.
"That ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you"
This exhortation from the Apostle of Grace would be labeled sadly, as cultic by some today, yet God saw fit to include it in the Holy Scriptures.
"But that ye be perfectly joined"
As living stones with Christ as our Cornerstone, we must purpose to be perfectly joined together in the war that rages around us. It is not popular to be a Christian today. It is certainly not an easy thing to take up our crosses, deny ourselves, and choose humility over the need to "be right." Yet it is what we must do in our churches if we seek to please God and honor His commands. Honoring His commands, after all, is how He said we love Him.
"In the same mind and in the same judgment."
Nothing is more threatening to the enemy's schemes than when a body of believers, however small it may be, bands together in the light of absolute truth, chooses humility and preferring one another. Nothing is more of a testimony to this sin-sick and politically-correct infested society we have become than when we love one another. Believers of Jesus, let us come together and stand in truth that we may have the strength of an army-the army of the Lord of Hosts.
