Praise & Prayer: An indigenous evangelical mission in Sierra Leone offers a ministry of mercy to men and women, boys and girls who have had their hands chopped off by ruthless rebels. Compassionate Christians hand-feed each person with food supplied through gifts received from Christian Aid in the U.S. They also assist the victims in putting on their shoes and clothing, washing their bodies, and drinking water. Hundreds of adults and children in Sierra Leone had their hands chopped off for no reason during the rebellion of 1998/99. When asked why they did it, one rebel leader said, "We like to see the blood spurt and hear them scream." Another said he collected the amputated hands and fingers as souvenirs.
