"Burial Practices"

by Ed Slaughenhaupt, pastor

Ted Kyle's "Burial Practices" article has in my estimation failed to consider that though there may be no "thus saith the Lord" on the subject of cremation, the Lord has indeed left us an indication of how He views this increasingly popular disposal option. Amos 2:1 states that the Lord brought a perpetual punishment upon Moab for their transgression of burning the bones of the king of Edom. Further the biblical statement: "from dust to dust" (not "ashes to ashes") is another indication of God's design for the natural decomposition of the human body which is uniquely created in His image. A study of the history of cremation will also in my opinion lead most Bible believers to conclude that it is indeed a pagan practice.
