Prayer Team for President Surpasses 1 Million

The faith-based initiative of two visionaries launched on Sept. 12, 2001, in Scottsdale, Ariz., by sculptor William Hunter to pray daily for U.S. President Bush George W. Bush, his cabinet, and the nation had blossomed into 1,007,059 committed members worldwide by mid-March. The goal of the Presidential Prayer Team is to enlist at least 1 percent of the U.S. population (about 2.8 million people) to pray daily for the government and the people, Hunter says. Team leaders plan to export the concept around the world, enlisting nationals to pray for their heads of state and governments in other countries-especially those in which freedom of worship is at risk. "Praying for our leaders is the greatest thing we can do for our nation," Hunter says.</P
