Muslims Seek Converts in U.S. Prisons

Bob Morey, founder of Faith Defenders, says one of the greatest mission fields in reaching Muslims in America is the U.S. prison system. "While some leaders lament the heavy population of African-Americans and other ethnic minorities in our prisons, Muslims ‘rub their hands together in glee' at the prospect of converting them to Islam, and they're doing it," he says. Some estimates of conversions in the U.S. prisons go as high as 30,000 to 50,000 a year. Morey says most evangelical Christians and pastors-even prison chaplains-do not know how to witness to and evangelize Muslims. He adds that requests from prisoners for his organization's materials and training sessions are growing faster than the group's financial resources.
