Church Attendance in Israel Soars

While a peace summit is being discussed for the Middle East, an interesting phenomenon is happening in Israel, says Mark Snowden of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. "Attendance at worship services is practically at all-time highs," he says. "The church is reaching out. People are praying so desperately not to fall into despair. They do sense despair among their neighbors. The Christians and the Jews are working together to protect their children-not putting them on public transportation, but renting buses." Snowden says the unrest isn't stopping believers from thinking about new ways to spread the gospel. "Christians want to figure out ways to expand on what they're already doing for ministry…to really reach out to women, to children with after-school programs, to men for job skill upgrading."
