A distinguished group of scholars, headed by Mal Couch, presents a most compelling case for biblical inerrancy. “Inerrancy is the view that when all the facts become known, they will demonstrate that the Bible, in its original autographs and correctly interpreted, is entirely true and never false in all it affirms, whether that relates to doctrine or ethics or the social, physical, or life sciences” (p.12).

These authors present persuasive proof that both the Old and New Testaments bear the unmistakable mark of divine origin. Not only do the writers, for the most part, affirm that they were speaking for God, but witnesses both ancient and modern recognize the Holy Spirit’s imprint on the delivered text.

Scholars who contributed to this book use several approaches in affirming inerrancy. First, they define relevant terms: inerrancy, revelation (progressive, special, and general), inspiration, and illumination. Next they show how the Old and New Testament texts were accepted into the canon of Scripture. The canon of the Old Testament as we know it today was settled by Jewish scholars several hundred years before Christ. The New Testament canon was settled by about 400 AD, though the various New Testament books had been in use by the churches from about 100 AD.

This book’s cogent arguments make it a worthwhile reference manual for pastors and a text for those training for the ministry.
