A Snapshot of the Second Coming
Revelation 1:7-8

1) The Person of the Book (v. 1a).

a) Revelation, simply put, is all about Jesus!

2) The Purpose of the Book (v. 1b).

a) To show His bond-servants the things that must soon take place.”

 b) Bond servants–doulois=slaves—compelled by their love to serve Christ.

 c) Christians today need to be reminded that Christ could return at any moment and the Tribulation Period could begin these future events.

3) The Pattern of the Book (v. 1c).

a) Revelation is “sign-ified”—it communicates in part by symbols

b) Symbols may communicate better than words: words change, symbols do not.

4) The Proclamation of the Book (v. 2).

a) John is proclaiming a prophetic message.

b) He faithfully recorded all he was commanded and all he saw.

c)  “We must be as careful reading the book of Revelation as John was recording it.” –John Phillips

5) The Promise of the Book (v. 3).

a) A special promise is given.

b) The blessing involves not only hearing but heeding.

6) The People Receiving the Letter (v. 4a).

a) Special messages given to the 7 churches in chapters 2-3.

b) These churches in Asia Minor were confronted with great persecution.

c) The 7 churches are typical of churches everywhere and for all times.

7) The Person Sending the Letter (vv. 4b-5a).

a) God the Father.

b) God the Holy Spirit.

c) God the Son

8) The Provisions of the Savior (vv. 5b-6a).

a) Christ loves unconditionally.

b) He released us from our sins by His blood.

c)  He has made us a kingdom of priests.

9) The Praise to the Savior (v. 6b).

a) He is worthy.

b) There is coming a day when all mankind will acknowledge Him as King of kings and Lord of Lords.
