Are You Hiding in the Winepress?

Introduction:

We find God’s people oppressed by the Midianiates. Israel was hiding in caves, their land eaten up by the marauders. The forces against them were overwhelming. For this reason, they were brought very low.

  1. Call of Gideon (vv.1-13)
    1. The circumstances
    2. Gideon’s doubts
  2. Commission of Gideon (vv. 14,15)
    1. "Go in this thy strength"
    2. God’s presence makes us mighty.
    3. Weakness not an excuse, but rather qualification.
  3. Companionship for Gideon (v. 16)
    1. God Himself would be with him.
    2. What more does anyone need?
  4. Confirmation of Gideon (vv. 17-21)
    1. Why would a sign be needed?
    2. The Holy Spirit is God’s answer and sign to a consecrated life.
    3. Acceptance of his sacrifice meant acceptance of himself.
  5. Celebration of Gideon (vv. 22-24)
    1. God’s peace garrisons our hearts.
    2. The cross of Jesus speaks powerfully of peace.
Conclusion:

Gideon would no longer walk by sight. He would live by faith. God expands our abilities and resources when He calls us to service.What fears hold you back from accepting new challenges and opportunities at school, work, home, or church? "Have I not sent you? Surely, I will be with you."
