Some Things in hell We Need in Our Churches

Introduction: Every person needs to understand what the rich man in hell knows. It is amazing how spiritually blind the rich man was and how enlightened he became in hell.

Some things in hell we need:

  1. The Clearness of Sight: "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom" (Luke 16:23).
    1. The punishment of hell v. 23
    2. The paradise of heaven v. 23
  2. The Cries of Supplication: Luke 16:24, "And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus.…"
    1. Tears of memory
    2. Tears for mercy
    3. Tears of mediation v. 27, 28
  3. The Consciousness of Suffering: "for I am tormented in this flame."
    1. The suffering of the fire v. 24
    2. The suffering of the fears v. 28
    3. The suffering of the forever Rev. 20:10
    4. The suffering for the decisions that affect us and others
    5. The suffering of standing in judgment before Almighty God
  4. The Completeness of Separation: Luke 16:26, "there is a great gulf fixed" (cf. 2 Cor. 6:14-18)
    1. The saints in their place
    2. The sinners in their place (refutes reincarnation, return from death, and purgatory)
  5. The Concern for Sinners (Luke 16:27, 28). He became missionary minded ("send Lazarus")
  6. The Correct Way of Salvation: "If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead" (Luke 16:31). It’s pathetic how few churches today present a clear gospel message. There must be:
    1. The repentance of sins (Rom. 10:9-13)
    2. The resurrection of Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4)

Conclusion: Therefore, every person needs to understand what the rich man in hell knows.
