The Church Is Dead, Praise God! Come Die With Us!

By Victor Knowles

Intro.: Sometimes churches are accused of being dead. Unfortunately, this is sometimes true. Yet, in a sense, churches should be dead! Note Jesus’ teaching in John 12:24.

Christians should be:

I. Dead to Sin

    A. ‑Scriptures: Rom. 6:2,11; 1 Pet. 2:24; Col. 3:1-10; Gal. 6:14.

    B. ‑Summary: When we become Christians, we are to die to the practice of sin.

II. Dead to Self

    A. ‑Scriptures: John 12:24-26; Rom. 8:10-13; Gal. 5:24; 1 Cor. 15:31.

    B. ‑Summary: When we give ourselves to Christ, we must deny self, to serve Christ and others: “Not my will but Thine be done.”

III. Dead With Christ

    A. ‑Scriptures: Gal.2:20; Col. 2:20; Rom. 6:6,8; 2 Tim. 4:11).

    B. Summary:

           1. ‑Jesus died for sin, that we might die to sin.

           2. ‑Jesus lives in us now, that we might live with Him forever.
