Threats to the Home
Matthew 7:24-27

Intro: Foolish to build a house on the sand; even more so to build a home on the shifting sands of humanism, etc.

1)      Ancient Threats to the Home (Internal–Matt. 10:36).

a)       Lack of discipline.

i)  Eli (1 Sam. 3:13).

ii)Prov. 13:24; 23:13-14.

iii)   We can’t always point our fingers at the schools, judges, etc.

b)       Lack of Spiritual training.

i)  Goes hand-in-hand with discipline (Eph. 6:4).

ii)Prov. 22:6; Deut. 4:9-10.

iii)   Spiritually apply 1 Tim. 5:8.

c)        Lack of Praise.

i)  If a child lives w/criticism, he learns to be critical.

ii)Parents, set the example (Prov. 31:28).

iii)   Be as quick to praise as to punish or point out faults (1 Pet. 2:14).

d)       Lack of love.

i)  If love prevailed there would be no fighting, cheating, defrauding, arguing, abusing, divorcing, etc.

ii)Apply 1 Cor. 13:4-7 to the home.

2)      Modern Threats to the Home (External–“For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe”–Luther; Eph. 6:11).

a)       Audio-visual availability.

b)       Public schools and education.

c)        Women’s liberation movement.

d)       Working mothers.
