Unveiling the Message: The Book of Revelation

When the veil is lifted, what is revealed?

1)      A Person is revealed.

a)      Rev. 1:5: Jesus is spoken of as the “faithful witness,” the “first-born of the dead,” and the “ruler of the kings of the earth.”

b)      Vv. 1:13-16: The Lord is shown in His glory.

c)      5:6 et al: Jesus is revealed as the Lamb of God.

2)      A prophecy is revealed. John was told to: “Write therefore the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall take place after these things” (1:19).

3)      A perspective is revealed—God’s perspective of:

a)      Future history, concerning man and events;

b)      Justice, concerning men and nations; as well as

c)      Eternity, concerning creatures great and small.

4)      A practicum is revealed. Revelation is a living practicum (specialized field of study) for the committed Christian. One writer said, “If Revelation were the only book (we had), we would still have (sufficient) light on man, sin, Satan, holiness, judgment, salvation, church, worship, heaven, hell, and God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.”  --Irving L. Jensen, “Scenes of Judgment, Scenes of Joy,” Moody Monthly; June 1988, 31-33.

Challenge: As you read the book, reflect on what you read; use it as a mirror, let it shine in such personal areas as:

• Persevering under persecution,

• Church spirit and behavior,

• Sin and judgment,

• Christian witness,

• Satan and his forces,

• The destiny of this world,

• Christ’s role in future judgments,

• The hope of heaven, and

• The joy of its reality.
