“Make all you can; save all you can; give all you can,” said John Wesley.
Our first thought on beginning to read this may be: “How greedy can you get?” But wait! How about the giving? When we read that part, it gets kind of tough—give all you can?
That would leave nothing for some of those luxuries we sometimes wish for—a dinner at a good restaurant, a week’s vacation in a nice resort, a prime roast of beef. Maybe even a boat! You know what I mean.
When Jesus fed the thousands, He made enough to satisfy everybody. In fact, they had more than enough, but what about after they were satisfied? Did Jesus provide them with luxuries?
What was His command? “Gather up the fragments that remain [perisseú, to have more than enough], that nothing be wasted” (John 6:12).
It is a common saying that what America wastes would feed the world. And as believers, it is our duty to earn all we can and save all we can so that we can give all we can.
The world is hungry, desperately hungry, starving to death for both physical and spiritual food.
Join with us to do all we can to reach that hungry and dying world with our Lord’s wonderful blessings. He alone can satisfy, and we of this blessed country can give much, much more.
