Living Life to the Max, the Power of Perspective

by Bob Dasal

Vernon Armitage and Mark Littleton have written an informative, instructional, and inspiring book on the Book of Proverbs. Very readable, the book gives insights to the practical issues of daily life, based on Solomon's  proverbs.  The first chapter discusses "Putting the Puzzle Pieces of Life Together" and the epilogue is about "Where Do I Go from Here?"

In between, Armitage covers topics like: Guide to Good Decision Making, Sex for the Modern Couple, Relationships that Will Make Your Heart Sing, Parenting that Draws Kids to God, and Self-Discipline for the Undisciplined, just to name a few. In every chapter the realities of life are presented and the answers to the problems that come into our lives are addressed from the biblical perspective found in Proverbs. For example, chapter 9 is entitled "Managing Your Anger in an Angry World." Everybody has experienced the hurt of unkind words and/or unfair acts. Often the reaction is anger. When life deals us a tough situation we can even be angry with God. How does a Christian manage anger? The author urges us to not bottle up our anger. We need to admit it when we're angry. Proverbs 29:11 says, "A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control."

The chapter on parenting is especially good. "The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him" (Prov. 20:7). Proverbs says so much about being a parent that draws the children to God and it is covered so well in this volume.

If you are one that reads a chapter in Proverbs every day you'll find Living Life to the Max an excellent companion to your reading. If you are one desiring insight on wise Christian living you will find this book to be very helpful.
