by Bob GerowAMG's first contact with Gloria was when she was four years old. She had come to an AMG childcare center in the Philippines. "I lived on Negros Island. I was one of seven sisters and brothers taken into AMG's childcare program in 1989. A sponsor's generous praying and giving made caring for me possible. AMG also cared for my family. "I grew up being fed not only nutritious food, but God's Word. I can't forget my teacher and the other staff at the AMG center. They were so loving to us, and showed particular care for our spiritual needs. I learned many Bible verses, stories, and other lessons about the Bible. "As part of the childcare program, my parents were invited and went to Bible Study every Friday afternoon. In fourth grade I became a Christian. Through AMG's ministry, my mother also became a Christian." The impact of that early care stirred an interest in Gloria to become like her AMG teachers. As she learned and grew, she became a Sunday school teacher herself and then a counselor at summer camp programs. Gloria remained in the AMG program until completing the sixth grade. AMG's most recent contact with Gloria was a letter from Japan. She is now a 28-year-old cross-cultural missionary. She writes: "[After leaving the AMG Center] I was able to go to Bible school for a year, and soon felt the desire to become a cross-cultural missionary. On completing my studies, through God's grace, the door opened for me to be an English teacher in Japan. "I have been in Japan as a tentmaker missionary for almost five years now. God has provided a good church for me. I minister to children who are half-Japanese and half-Filipino. I enjoy working in the mission God has entrusted to me." What a difference a sponsorship makes! That remarkable fact has not escaped Gloria either. "In the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, please accept my heartfelt gratitude for AMG. What I am now is because of AMG sponsorship. I'm glad that I am one of the thousands that AMG has helped. After 24 years, I heartily say Thank You to AMG." It is thrilling to see how God used the prayerful and regular investment of a sponsor to so profoundly touch a young life, a family, and another culture for His glory. What a delight it is to be able to say with John the Apostle of those in his care, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth" (3 John v. 4). AMG International and its partner agencies have proactive sponsorship programs and are helping serve close to 20,000 sponsored children through 77 child development centers in 14 countries. Sponsor prayer and funding make it possible to maintain good care for children, and also make it possible to extend services to other children and their families.
